Men and women with osteoporosis. It can be prevented and treated, but it is often called the silent disease because bone loss occurs without symptoms. Do not you know that osteoporosis until their bones become so weak that a sudden pressure, bump or fall causes a fracture or vertebral collapse.
Early diagnosis is essential to prevent osteoporosis. Unfortunately, people think you have to worry about osteoporosis until they are older. Many people in their forty hours in the early victims of this debilitating disease.
Note:
United States national basis Osteoporosis is estimated that by 2035, countries like India and China to the world’s largest population of osteoporosis. One in two women and one in eight men over fifty will have an osteoporotic fracture during their lifetime.
The older you are, the more at risk of osteoporosis, such as bones become more brittle and less dense as you age. Family history can play an influential role in osteoporosis. Susceptibility to fracture may be partly hereditary. People whose parents have a history of fractures also seem to have reduced bone mass and may be at risk for fractures. Small, thin women are under greater risk of osteoporosis. The chances of developing osteoporosis if you are a woman. Women have less bone tissue and loss of bone faster than men due to the changes involved in menopause. Asian women are at increased risk of osteoporosis compared to Africa, Russia and Latin American women.
Detect osteoporosis:
DEXA (dual energy X-ray absorptiometry) bone density is considered the gold standard for accurate and reliable diagnosis of osteoporosis. Fast simple control, non-invasive, has minimal exposure to radiation, high reproducibility and can measure the bone mineral density at several sites.
DEXA bone density scan results can be:
a. Detect low bone density before a fracture occurs.
b. Confirmation of the diagnosis of osteoporosis if you have a fracture.
C. Predicting the likelihood of fracture for the future.
d. Determine the level of bone loss and monitor the effects of treatment or if the tests were conducted at intervals of one year or more.
Another method of screening for osteoporosis are:
Quantitative computed tomography, QCT, quantitative ultrasound, QU,. QCT can not do the hip. Radiation is the dream of high and expensive. QUS is inexpensive form of radiation and the free and very quick to measure bone density. However, due to the lack of precision, must be equipped with a DEXA scan before starting any long-term treatment.
Detect osteoporosis on radiographs are often a subjective assessment, and diagnosis is not always reliable.
