
Sinus infection or sinusitis is an inflammation and swelling of the lining of the sinus. Most of the time, this condition is associated with various types of respiratory tract infections. Sinusitis can be caused by infections caused by viruses, bacteria or fungi in the nasal cavity. It also may be caused by air pollution or allergens, the immune system is weak, cold, sudden changes in weather conditions, stress, excessive smoking, dehydration, infections and injuries of teeth on the nasal bone. This infection can be classified as infectious and noninfectious. Sinusitis can also be classified as acute when the state has a duration of no more than 4 weeks, subacute when it lasts for 4 to 6 weeks and chronic if more than 12 weeks. Whatever type of condition is usually the same symptoms of a sinus problem.
Inflammation of the sinuses can cause excessive mucus secretion, thus blocking the nasal passages. Some of the symptoms of sinus problems are the most common were headache, nasal congestion and pain and pressure in the affected area. Other symptoms may include cough, green or yellow discharge thick, pain in upper teeth or jaw, bad breath, sore throat, fatigue, loss of smell and taste, difficulty breathing and burning eyes. In severe cases of sinusitis, can also cause brain infection, meningitis, or osteomyelitis.
